LMIA-Based Work Permit

An LMIA-Based Work Permit allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers when there are no suitable Canadian citizens or permanent residents to fill the job. Employers must obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) confirming the need for a foreign worker.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Valid job offer from a Canadian employer with a positive LMIA

  • Must meet job qualifications (education, work experience)

  • Intend to leave Canada at the end of authorized stay

  • Must pass background (security/medical) checks

  • Employer must demonstrate recruitment efforts to hire Canadians

Required Documents

  • Positive LMIA letter from ESDC

  • Valid job offer and employment contract

  • Proof of qualifications (education/work experience)

  • Passport

  • Completed application forms

  • Police certificate and medical exam (if required)

  • Biometrics (if required)
