Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP)

The Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) allows eligible foreign nationals in Canada to continue working while awaiting the decision on their permanent residence application under an eligible program (like FSWP, CEC, or PNP).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently in Canada with valid temporary resident status
  • Applied for PR under Express Entry or other eligible economic class
  • Current work permit expires in 4 months or less
  • PR application passed completeness check (AOR received)
  • Eligible for an open work permit (no job-specific restrictions)

  • Passport
  • Proof of submitted PR application (Acknowledgment of Receipt or file number)
  • Current work permit
  • Employment verification (optional)
  • Fee payment receipt
  • Digital photo
  • IMM 5710 form (Application to Change Conditions or Extend Stay)
