K-1 Visa — Fiancé(e) of U.S. Citizen

The K-1 visa allows a U.S. citizen to bring their foreign fiancé(e) to the United States for the purpose of marriage. The couple must marry within 90 days of the fiancé(e)’s arrival in the U.S., after which the foreign spouse can apply for a green card.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Petitioner must be a U.S. citizen (not a green card holder)

  • Both parties must be legally free to marry

  • Couple must have met in person within 2 years (unless waived)

  • Must marry within 90 days of the K-1’s entry into the U.S.

Required Documents

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship (passport, birth certificate)

  • Evidence of relationship and intent to marry (photos, chats, engagement proof)

  • Proof of in-person meeting within the last 2 years

  • Form I-129F

  • Police certificates, medical exam (for the beneficiary)
