Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship (PGP)

The Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (PGP) allows eligible Canadians and permanent residents to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada as permanent residents. This program is competitive and is typically conducted through a lottery-based invitation process each year.

Eligibility Criteria

Sponsor must:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

  • Meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for 3 consecutive tax years

  • Sign an undertaking to financially support the sponsored parent/grandparent for 20 years

Parent or grandparent must:

  • Pass medical, criminal, and security checks

  • Provide biometrics

  • Submit all required documentation accurately

Required Documents

  • Proof of sponsor’s income (e.g., Notice of Assessment for 3 years)

  • Relationship documents (e.g., birth certificate of sponsor showing parent-child link)

  • IMM 1344, IMM 5768, IMM 5406, and other forms

  • Valid passports of the parents/grandparents

  • Medical exams

  • Police clearance certificates

  • Digital photos
